Environment Texas
Air pollution is making people sick – especially children, senior citizens and people with respiratory problems. In fact, studies show that more air pollution cuts short the lives of more than 12,000 Texans each year from cancer, heart disease and other health problems. Our research has found that Texas petrochemical facilities violated clean air laws at least 3400 times in 2015, illegally releasing 68 million pounds of pollution, including chemicals linked to cancer and heart disease. We've successfully sued three of the worst polluters in Texas, including winning a $20 million penalty against ExxonMobil for violating the Clean Air Act at the company's Baytown facility. And we've created NeighborhoodWitness.org to make it easier for Texans living near a petrochemical plant to monitor and report violations.
